Suitable for children

Pääsküla bog works are held on Saturdays, 24.08, 31.08, 07.09, 14.09, 28.09, 05.10 and 12.10. The goal of the works is to close the drainage ditches that were once built, so that the marsh and bog patches can start to grow again and, thanks to this, provide a suitable environment for the special plant and animal communities characteristic of the bog. To do this, we build dams by hand together.

Simple hand tools such as shovels, hand saws and pruning shears are used for the work, which are also suitable for young people of older school age. The supervisors provide quick training on site, hand out the necessary tools and provide guidance as needed. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and waterproof shoes!

Let the work leader Aleksandir aleksanert.tukk@gmail.com or Lauri pisimutukas@gmail.com know about your arrival. The labor leaders are in the swamp from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but anyone interested can choose a time of day that suits them, when they can get involved. Half a day, i.e. 3-4 hours, is also a big help.

What skills/resources are expected from the voulunteers?

You must be ready for physical work, training and guidance on site.

What volunteering offers?

You will find new friends and acquaintances and do good for the urban nature that surrounds us. You can also combine volunteer work with the school’s community practice or use it as a good opportunity to test your team skills. You will definitely learn more about the importance of bogs.

What does the organization offer?

We organize the necessary tools and lunch for all the workers. We also take candy breaks. After the labor days end in the fall, we will organize a thank you event for all participants.
